You have been warned!
Any idea what this is?
It is shades of olive green with black and white markings. Those aren’t eyes, by the way, but markings. This one is about 60mm long and 10mm in diameter. It’s a fleshy creature with no hairs, but that’s a ‘horn’ on the end.
The suggestion is that it’s an elephant hawk moth, anyone know for sure?
Definitely an elephant hawk moth caterpillar. Believe that the large ‘eyes’ are meant to put predators off. Probably makes them laugh to much to be able to eat it!

Thanks Maggi, I thought it was but I haven’t seen one for years. A neighbour found it – now she’s frightened to go outside.

[…] you want to see what a neighbour found you will have to look here, but it’s a little gruesome. As for us – the road is still in a state of disrepair! […]

He’s growing on me, but the manner in which he presented himself was definitely NOT cute 🙂

I had to ‘steel’ myself to take the photo. I thought I ought to post a warning in the title. Thanks for commenting, and for the ‘like’ too.
